Best Buddies Friendship Walk

Since launching the Atlanta Chapter of Best Buddies International back in 2018, Property Works has opened its doors to employees with IDD. Emma is one such team member who has been working closely with our very own Director of Business Development, James Rabb otherwise known around BB circles as Jimmy.

Emma has been working alongside Jimmy for the past five years. She’s always excited to come in to work every Friday, especially when she has to go to the post office as part of her duties.

“We go on a road trip to the post office! We get the mail, open it and stamp it!”

Emma loves the routine of organizing the meeting spaces and conference rooms, helping to shred documents, taking care of the recycling and assisting with various activities around the office.

But it’s not all work for Emma. She recalls having fun at the annual Best Buddies galas. In fact, Emma and Jimmy participated in the Champion of the Year fundraisers in 2019 and 2020 and emerged first runners in 2019!

“I raised funds with Jimmy for more Best Buddies workplace programs and I danced with Jimmy’s mom.”

Emma and Jimmy have known each other since childhood, having grown up in the same community and attended the same church and youth group activities like camping trips and even traveling as far as Rome.

She turned 30 a few weeks ago and said the party that the PW team threw her “sure was good!”

Emma shares a great personal connection with everyone at the office and warmly welcomes everyone with a smile. She even makes cards for team members on birthdays and special occasions like Valentines.

Jimmy remarks that working with Emma as part of the Best Buddies workplace program has changed his life. He admires the progress she’s made over the last couple of years and the fact that she’s remained focused on her duties. They’re both looking forward to tackling bigger projects at Property Works premises throughout this year.

“Working closely with someone with IDD and seeing firsthand how their life changes for the better, is way more impactful than just making a donation to the cause.” He advocates for more businesses and organizations to get their boots on the ground and make a positive difference in the lives of people living with IDD. He encourages anyone who can, to get involved to help empower their special abilities.

One of the ways you can help is by signing up for the annual Best Buddies Friendship Walk, which is set for April 22 at Blackburn Park, Brookhaven, Georgia.

REGISTER HERE to join the Property Works team to walk, or be a cheerleader! Bring along your family, friends and co-workers to help engender greater awareness for inclusion and acceptance of people with IDD, while creating a more welcoming world for every-buddy!
